a mystery no more. we have the goods on the google barge off treasure island. >> it's a story you'll see only on kpix 5. a source confirms it's been ongoing for more than a year. spawned in the so-called google x division of the company, both in secrecy even for most employees but personally directed by sergei brin. a high tech show room for google products. reserved for high level vips and tech geeks. a four story building constructed of shipping containers that can be assembled and disassembled at will.

it's designed to be disassembled and reassembled anywhere in the world. it could be at a ski resort one morning and at at a beach later. an invitation only requirement. there is only one problem. the company was informed by the u.s. coast guard last summer that a building is a floating vessel and subject to all applicable federal maritime regulations. construction appears stalled while google struggles to work within the safety requirements by the coast guard. in the meantime it sits moored in san fransisco bay amid tight security. let's go to treasure island where we've been pursuing this mystery behind the barge for days. >> reporter: we found a freedom of information act request with

the coast guard concerning the barge, sitting back in the water where the flood lights are. in the meantime documents released in portland, maine, they reveal that the coast guard there back in may met with a google executive to review construction plans. it is a lot of secrecy but some are saying the mystery for google is the mastery. >> telling us what you might know ... >> reporter: with ever knock on the door. >> i don't know anything about it. >> reporter: eefr phone call and the e-mail, the notes are stacking up. google itself isn't commenting, the mayor says he knows nothing about it. san fransisco supervisor had a spokesperson told us she has no comment but might say something in a week. then there's the u.s. coast guard. it issued a longer statement today saying it has an

obligation to protect sensitive proprietary information and regarding barge b.a.l. 0010, coast guard per cent northwesterly have been on board to conduct routine inspections and insure compliance with environmental protection recommendations. but they won't say whether the barge is in compliance. the document we did receive today is this lease agreement that the owners of the barges have with the treasure island developmental authority. it is called by and large and they've leased not only the pier but the property i'm standing on, this building behind me which is hangar 3, 727,000 square feet. they're paying $80,000 a month along with a $158,000 security deposit. >> thank you. one more thing, and this will make you smile. google senior executives were worried that media, all of us, covering the opening of the new

eastern span of the bay bridge in september would notice the unusual barge and start asking questions. but no reporter ever did a story on it until last week. couple of boys are spending hallowe'en in the hospital. the boys, ages 12 and 13, were trick-or-treating with two other friends in cloverdale when a pickup hit them. one boy was flown to the hospital with double leg fractures and the others had head trauma. the driver was not injured and is cooperating with investigators. a united express flight san antonia made an unscheduled stop in phoenix after someone made that threat. a bomb squad and police dogs searched the plan. passengers were on -- plane.

passengers were on their way a short time later. two parents are suing. how seaton medical center lost that stillborn baby's body. >> reporter: october 28th of last year, a family was devastated by the stillborn birth of their daughter but later as they were preparing for the funeral, hospital officials informed them of another problem. after a nurse wrapped the baby in a sheet, the body was not taken to the morgue. instead she was accidentally thrown in with the laundry. but wait, it gets worse. laundry is shipped off premises to santa cruz. 70 miles away and it was a worker at that offsite facility that discovered the baby's body as it was on a conveyor belt going into an industrial washing machine. because it's a lawsuit the hospital can't talk about it. >> we can't comment beyond

acknowledging the fact that this is pending litigation. but our hearts certainly go out to this family and everyone here is praying for their comfort and consolation. who would leave their kids locked in a car for more than 14 hours? police say this guy, julio reyes of san jose. he said his car along with his 10-year-old daughter and 8-year-old son were missing. but after they questioned him, he admitted that he went to a friend's house and left the car and the kids behind in milpitas. >> the children were very cold, very tired, very hungry, and so the officers took them into protective custody and brought them back here to the police station. >> the children are okay tonight. reyes is facing a felony child endangerment charge. dogs are being tested for rabies after biting people last
